Driving Lessons Sunderland

Sunderland
Originally a centre of heavy industry, specifically shipbuilding and coal mining, Sunderland is a town located in the north east of England. Al large town, don't rely on public transport. Sitting on the banks of the River Wear, Sunderland has undergone major redevelopment over the last few decades and many of the old industrial sites have been converted into upmarket accommodation and trendy entertainment areas. The Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens sees more visitors through its gates each year than any other museum outside of London.

The museum boldly displays the cities past from pre-history right up to present day. The stunning Winter Gardens are populated with plants from all around the world. Built on the site of the very first glass factory is the Sunderland Glass Centre, crammed full of information and exhibits focused on the local glass industry.

One of the problems faced by Sunderland was the large areas of old industrial land, and especially old coal mining facilities. In an attempt to clean up the countryside the Herrington Country Park was created on the site of an old open cast mine. It incorporates a wildlife conversation centre, although it is more noted for its excellent event felicities and has hosted some major festivals such as Party in the Park and the North East Motor Show.

There have been some excellent restaurants opened in Sunderland over the last few years; most recently Martinos has become the favourite, decorated in a faux Roman style, very kitsch and popular with younger crowds.
